Momentum: Youth ministry Workshops to get you going

OVERVIEW
We all know that people lead others to Christ, not programs. Therefore, the Youth Office is dedicated to provide quality, affordable, and flexible training to parish leaders and volunteers to assist them in growing and developing their youth ministry. These workshops cover a variety of fundamental youth ministry topics and skills that are key to any program. Don’t have the time to train leaders and volunteers? Let us help you!
DETAILS
Workshops average about 2 – 2 ½ hours and include time for practical application, Q&A, and brainstorming. A resource packet is provided for each participant.
COST
The parish is asked to contribute $75 to help cover costs. The cost is the same regardless of the number of attendees or the length of the workshop.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Diane Pickert has a passion for youth ministry that stems from the positive influence it made in the lives of her two daughters during a family crisis. Entering her 5th year as the full time youth minister at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, Diane has grown their youth program into a thriving community that involves not only teens, but parents, children and young adults. Diane has helped several local parishes begin their own youth ministry programs through a combination of practical know-how, contagious enthusiasm and colorful stories.
Workshop Topics
Youth Ministry 101
An overview of the core principles involved in leading teens closer to Christ. Topics to be covered include: personal conversion to Christ, Eucharist-centered ministry, relational ministry, youth evangelization, effective parish models, youth culture, evaluating resources and setting goals. Attendees will be equipped to begin strategic planning to form (or renew) their youth ministry program. They will understand the elements of a successful youth ministry program and the steps needed to establish one.
Youth Ministry Tool Box
Almost as important as a proper vision and theology of youth ministry are the practical skills that are used week in and week out in a parish program. This workshop is a perfect follow-up on the Youth Ministry 101 session. Topics included are: how to plan a semester, youth nights, and retreats, how to lead a small group, give a talk, and a primer on games and icebreakers.
Creating and Training a Youth Ministry Core Team
Whether the youth minister is full time, part time, or volunteer, a core team of mature adult disciples is essential to any youth program. This workshop will equip parish leaders to call, train, and nurture such a core team. Topics to be covered are the role, function, and essential qualities of a Core Team member such as: the demands of discipleship, the signs and process of conversion, life of holiness, basic skills, myths and mandates.
Creating a Parish Youth Ministry Culture
Don’t put youth ministry in a box! Leading children and teens to fully embrace their faith should be a parish-wide effort that involves the cooperative efforts of the pastor, DRE, Confirmation Coordinator, youth minister, principal and parents. This workshop will outline values, goals and practices that should animate your parish culture so that diverse parish areas all work in unison in building the Kingdom.
